Ijen Blue Fire

The Ijen Crater (Kawah Ijen) in East Java, Indonesia, is famous for its blue fire phenomenon, a rare natural occurrence found in only a few places in the world. This breathtaking spectacle is caused by the combustion of sulfuric gases that emerge from cracks in the volcano at extremely high temperatures. When ignited, these gases produce an electric-blue flame that can be seen in the darkness before sunrise.

The blue fire is best observed between midnight and early morning when the darkness enhances its glow. Trekkers hike to the summit of Mount Ijen and descend into the crater to witness this surreal sight up close. Alongside the blue fire, the Ijen Crater is also home to one of the largest acidic crater lakes in the world, with its striking turquoise color adding to the dramatic landscape.

For an unforgettable adventure, many travelers take the Ijen Tour from Bali, which includes guided treks, ferry transfers, and expert explanations from local guides. This experience is a must-see for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
